Buyers clearly can't get enough of the Ford BA Falcon XR range after a record number of the performance models were sold during March.

Falcon sales of 6,395 units, the best March result since 1999, included a record total of 1,853 XR6, XR6 Turbo and XR8 Falcons.

"The XR range continues to play a key role in the success of BA Falcon," said Ford Australia Marketing and Sales Vice President Bruce McDonald.

"As well as a new sales record, Falcon XR figures were also up 494 units ? or 36.3 per cent ? on March 2003.

"However, BA Falcon's success is not just limited to the XR range. Falcon Ute set a new March record with 1905 units sold, making it the third best Falcon Ute result we've achieved."

Overall Ford sales totalled 11,810 units, representing the best March sales result since 1999. Total sales were up 889 units ? or 8.1 per cent ? on the March 2003 figure.

"Total Ford passenger vehicle sales in March numbered 8,115 units, which is another best March result since 1999," said Mr McDonald.

"While Falcon Ute led the way for our commercial vehicle range, Courier 4x4 also did well in the light truck market. Its total of 437 units was yet another record March result, as well as an increase of 58.3 per cent versus March 2003."

Mr McDonald said the sales momentum generated by the Falcon Ute and Courier 4x4 was evident throughout the commercial vehicle line-up, with Courier 4x2, Transit and Econovan all showing significant increases compared with March 2003.

"With the introduction of the Fiesta light car and four-cylinder ZB Escape last month, coupled with the enormous interest shown in the new Territory at the recent Melbourne International Motor Show, Ford is well positioned to build on the sales success generated by the award-winning BA Falcon."
