It is the second successive year a Falcon has scored the prestigious award. In 2002, the BA Futura won the Best Family Car title, while the BA XR6 Turbo won the award for Best Sports Car Under $57,000.
Australia's Best Car awards are judged by a panel of judges representing each of the major automobile clubs in Australia.
"It is an honour to receive this endorsement from Australia's automotive clubs," says Ford Australia President, Geoff Polites.
"The automobile clubs' judging system involves a wide criteria and categories and the BA Falcon XT has come out ahead as the Best Family Car.
"This award represents recognition for the efforts of everyone at Ford Australia in producing the finest Falcon to roll off the Broadmeadows assembly line.
"The mix of modern styling inside and out, a responsive DOHC six-cylinder engine and the superb handling offered by the Control Blade IRS have all helped make the Falcon XT a winner with customers and critics alike.
"Falcon sales in 2003 are up more than 18,000 on the 2002 figure, representing a 37.2 per cent increase," Polites said.
The award for Best Family Car was presented to Polites at the annual Australia's Best Cars announcement earlier today. The judging panel consisted of representatives from RACV, NRMA, RACQ, RAASA, RAC, RACT, and AANT.
