Richards will drive the same FTR Falcon which teammate Glenn Seton put on the front row at Bathurst, then gained Seton and Richards a top-10 finish at Australia?s premier motor race.
FTR?s all-new Ford Falcon AUXR8 has been kept in the team?s workshop since the 1000 kilometre classic in preparation for the all-important Sandown event.
?I did take a race win in Canberra earlier this year, but it would be great to finish the year with a round win,? said Richards.
?There?s no doubt that this car is a strong performer and is sure to give me an edge against what will be stiff opposition.
?This year has seen some ups and downs, so to finish with a win would be an important motivation factor for the team to take away over the summer break.
After back-to-back races on the Gold Coast and New Zealand, FTR?s existing racecars and equipment have been out of the team?s Dandenong headquarters for five weeks and will only have a handful of days preparation before Sandown.
?The good thing is that we have Steve?s car set to go and the crew can use those few days to totally focus on having my car set for the race,? said Seton.
?Sandown is a place that has been good to me in the past, including a 500 kilometre victory, so I?m confident of a strong showing this time around.
?Ford?s have been very strong at Sandown, I would like to be the Falcon leading the pack this time.
After tens of thousands of kilometres travelled around Australia during the 2001 season, the FTR crew will make a short hop of 15 kilometres from Dandenong to Sandown for the final race.
?After all the travelling this year, it?s a bonus for us to finish with a home event,? said Seton.
?Not only will we be actually travelling each day from home, it?s also the fact that we have plenty of local support from sponsors and friends to further provide extra motivation.
The V8 Ultimate will be one of the best meetings of the year, with race fans to experience three full days of V8 action.
The schedule includes practice and qualifying on the Friday; a top-15 shootout and the first 48-lap race on Saturday, with the final two 48-lap races on the Sunday.
Each race will feature compulsory pit stops for tyres; adding a strategic game to the racing and putting pressure on the FTR crew to gain positions with quick stops.
