The competitive nature of the automotive industry demands the continued improvement of all processes. In the area of logistics, the need to reduce delivery times, reduce freight costs, reduce inventory within the supply chain and increase supply flexibility is very important.The development of a business park in close proximity to the assembly plant achieves these key logistical elements by allowing the external sequencing of parts.
The close proximity of supplier plants allows the Ford Assembly Plant to electronically send vehicle build data as each vehicle is placed onto the trim assembly lines. As the vehicle commences its assembly, suppliers in the Business Park are able to commence the manufacture of key components and deliver these parts, in sequence, directly to the assembly line fitment point. This process minimizes finished inventory at the supplier, in transit and at the assembly plant, as the parts are only produced, when required, in line with customer demand.
