The all-new Ford Escape will go on sale in mid-March with a 150kW 3.0 litre Duratec V6 engine and a 4-speed electronic control automatic transmission (including lockup torque converter and overdrive) as standard.

The powerful V6 engine gives Escape a fun-to-drive character in both urban and off-road situations, as well as robust towing capabilities.

The fun and versatile small 4WD will be offered in two model ranges, with the well-equipped entry model XLS offering all the usual passenger car creature comforts and the XLT providing an even sportier execution and level of comfort.

Based on an all-new platform, the Escape will offer superior performance, unique “fun-tough” styling, and new levels of comfort and convenience for those customers looking for a complete lifestyle vehicle.

“V6 Escape will meet the needs of the growing customer market who are looking for a vehicle not just to take them to work and back during the week but also to provide them with enough fun and agility for their weekend activities,” said Ford Australia President, Geoff Polites.

“Escape is a fun leisure vehicle that offers a real alternative to a small car – versatile enough for the most active of lifestyles and still easily maneuverable in city traffic.”

With unibody construction and the confidence of full-time four-wheel-drive capabilities, the Ford Escape will provide refined car-like ride and handling, best-in-class interior spaciousness (enough for friends and luggage), good fuel economy and low emissions in a small, tough, 4WD.

Ford Australia 4WD and Commercial Marketing Manager, Kevin Lillie, believes that the Escape will appeal to a wide variety of customers, including those who would never have thought of purchasing a 4WD vehicle before.

“Escape is designed to appeal to younger buyers as well as the ‘young at heart’ – drivers who want fun, agile, sporty, durable, affordable and fuel-efficient transport to take them through their busy lives,” Kevin said.

“They may not have considered buying a larger 4WD before but Escape will provide them with a perfect solution – a blend of image, versatility and affordability in a size to meet all their needs.”
