On a tough weekend for the two-time champion, Seton had to pre-qualify on Friday before qualifying 18th for the opening 13-lap twilight race on the Saturday evening.
Seton finished 18th in the opening race, before climbing to 15th in race two.
After a strong start to the final race of the weekend, the Ford Credit Racing star suffered engine failure just five laps in.
"This weekend was a learning experience to say the least," said Seton.
"We really struggled with the new Dunlop control tyre, but following a fourth quickest time in the morning warm-up, we were confident of moving further up the order.
"The engine failure in the final race unfortunately ended any chance of showing that we are making strong gains.
"We'll make some changes before the next round in Darwin and I'm sure we can strike back.
"In a sport where every split second counts, we're only talking about finding a very small margin to move towards the front of the grid."
"We only to get around half-a-second a lap improvement, which is clearly achievable and we're determined to find it in Darwin.
Mark Skaife took his third straight win of the season to open a massive points lead in the championship chase. Ford drivers Marcos Ambrose and Craig Lowndes finished in the minor placings.
Seton lies in 17th position overall in the championship and with ten rounds remaining is still in contention to climb well within the top-10 in the points standings.
The next round of the 2002 V8 Championship is at Darwin's Hidden Valley from 17 - 19 May.
