Driving a Ford Gets Personal

Australia's award winning automotive internet site has just got even better.*

Today, Ford Australia goes on-line with another internet first for the Australian automotive industry ? a password-protected, personalized web page that does just about everything for your car other than drive it for you!

First go to www.ford.com.au and click on MyFord, next register your details and enter a one-stop shop designed to meet your individual driving needs.

"This is service with a difference," according to MyFord creator, Chaminda Ranasinghe. "The site is not like a brochure which simply provides vehicle information to a customer. Instead, it is a two way process - once users enter their details, the system alerts them to what they need to know for their particular model of vehicle, rather than customers having to go on site and search for information.

"The idea is to provide customers with convenience, individual service and to save them time and money as Ford vehicle owners," said Mr Ranasinghe, a Ford Australia E-business Project Co-ordinator.

The site not only serves customers with new Ford vehicles. It can generate specific information for users whether they have a new or used Ford car with data on models dating back as far as 1990.

Personalized e-mail reminders ensure you never forget your vehicle's scheduled service times again or repayment dates for registration and insurance. The site provides up to six key automotive and two personal e-mail reminders. You set the dates and MyFord will post the dates to your personal calendar and send you an e-mail reminder when the time is due.

By supplying your VIN number (Vehicle Identification Number ? usually found stamped on the engine), you receive your vehicle's official factory record. There are on-line owners' manuals, a service log to record completed services, and advice on how to get the best out of your car concerning fuel, tyres and towing.

The system automatically provides details of your closest dealer and any special offers available such as discounts on servicing and parts or sales programs. There are also links to other related sites such as Hertz for car rental, Ford Credit for leasing and finance, fuel price watch, and registration and tourism authorities.

There are tips for safe motoring, traffic reports, a trip planner, maps and directions, games, tools for the road, and breakdown advice. Members of MyFord will also get exclusive previews of the latest Ford models and have their say on a variety of related topics via on-line surveys.

For the car enthusiast, there is information about all of your vehicle's major operating systems, listings of Ford clubs, motorsport and on-line shopping. You can even load a favourite photo of your car on your personalized web page and gaze lovingly at it any time of the day with a click of a button!

Mr Ranasinghe says the site was developed in response to customer requests.

"Our customers are telling us they want this type of information and services available on the internet. Hopefully, MyFord will not only meet their expectations but exceed them."

He says it is the most comprehensive level of information available to vehicle customers on the internet and provides a new level of service with the inclusion of interactive features such as the e-mail alert.

"Ford also benefits from the site as it provides an opportunity for us to get closer to our customers, to understand their concerns and interests and, in turn, to build on their satisfaction with Ford vehicles."

Mr Ranasinghe based the site on a Ford program in the United States but has spent the last five months expanding its capabilities. The program is being adapted and translated into five languages for use in 12 countries in which Ford operates in the Asia Pacific region.

He hopes up to 100,000 customers will join the site in the next 12 to 18 months.

"MyFord is another milestone in our drive to provide industry-leading internet services and we believe it has great potential for further expansion, for example, through integration with in-car telematics or providing direct customer-to-technician on-line automotive advice in the future."

* Ford Australia's internet site, www.ford.com.au won the Gold Award for the Best New Car Site 2001, voted by internet users, in a survey by JD Power Australia.
