Close Formula Ford Season Continues in Sydney

Victorian Will Davison powered his Garry Rogers Motorsport Van Diemen to pole position to tomorrows second round of the Ford Racing Australia Formula Ford Championship at Sydney’s Eastern Creek circuit, with a time of 1 minute 37.91 seconds.

“We’re wrapped at getting pole and picking up an extra Championship point, it’s definitely going to be close racing tomorrow,” Davison says.

Davison edged out close rival Queenslander Will Power in the Toowoomba Confectionary Wholesalers Van Diemen for top spot on the grid.

Power came back strongly in the second qualifying session with a time of 1 minute 37.98 seconds, making amends for a disappointing result in early qualifying.

“We fixed the brakes after the first qualifying session and made some minor changes, the car is definitely running much better,” says Power.

Nick Agland in the Bosch Batteries Spectrum managed to lap the 3.93 km racetrack in 1 minute 38.10 secs, earning him third place on the grid. “The V8s have been laying down rubber on the track throughout the day and everyone is going faster, it’s a difficult track to get away on though because of the tow on the straight,” says Agland.

Another to qualify well was W.A’s David Clark who piloted his Optima Motorsport Van Diemen to a fourth fastest 1 minute 38.20 secs.

Current Avon Rookie of the Year leader, Victorian Jamie Whincup closely followed in the Bosch sponsored Mygale posting a time of 1 minute 38.23 seconds.
