Canto Completes FTR Enduro Squad

2000 Konica V8 Champion and current Shell Championship driver, Dean Canto, has been announced as the final endurance driver for Ford Tickford Racing (FTR).

Canto will join the FTR squad of Glenn Seton and Steve Richards, as well as endurance specialist Jim Richards, at the Queensland 500 and the famed Bathurst 1000 races.

Canto was offered the drive on the back of his strong performance with the team at the 2000 Queensland 500, his Konica success as well as his vast potential in the V8 category.

At just 20 years of age, Canto is fully aware that FTR brings a good chance of victory at Queensland and Bathurst.

“FTR want to win those races and they have the machinery and personnel to back that up,” said Canto.

“Working with three drivers that have 48 Bathurst starts amongst them is great experience which I’m sure to benefit from.

“I’m keen to show my strengths in this category of racing and I’m very confident of being a strong member of the team.

For team owner, Glenn Seton, bringing Canto on-board is reminiscent of his first big break in touring car racing in 1986.

“Like Dean, I was 21 years of age and was given a chance with the works Nissan team,” said Seton.

“I took that opportunity with both hands and that’s what we want Dean to do at Queensland and Bathurst.

“Dean is very much part the next crop of top-line drivers - He’s had two Queensland and Bathurst starts in a V8 - so he’s got experience beyond his years. “It’s good to have all our drivers set, and we can now use both Jim and Dean at testing to work towards the best combinations at the enduro events.

Canto will continue to drive a Ford Falcon AUXR8 for Edge Motorsport at the other rounds of this year’s Shell Championship Series.
