The National Breast Cancer Foundation was the big winner at the inaugural Ford Racing Charity Dinner at the Conrad Treasury Casino Hotel in Brisbane recently.

$20,000 was raised for Ford Racing?s chosen charity on the evening, making a total of $30,000 for the year after Ford V8 Superbreakfasts held in Adelaide and Perth.

With future Ford V8 Superbreakfasts in Sydney (Oran Park), Melbourne (Sandown), Surfers Paradise (Gold Coast Indy), Launceston (Symmons Plains) and Parramatta (Eastern Creek), at least $50,000 is hoped to be raised.

One of the hottest items on the evening was a hot lap of the Queensland Raceway with Steven Johnson of the Shell Helix Racing team.

As the auction for the lap progressed, a surprise bidder, V8 Supercar supremo Tony Cochrane (AVESCO Chairman) pledged $5000, as long as it was with Johnson?s famous father and Queensland legend Dick Johnson.

Johnson Sr. agreed and the hot lap has been set down for the Gold Coast Indy carnival on October 21-24.

Cochrane immediately announced that the auction was to remain open and the highest bidder would win the lap and all proceeds would go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Details of the auction will be published on the Ford Racing and V8 Supercar websites in the near future.

The evening was a huge success with 140 guests all pledging support and a number walked away with some great prizes; including a signed Wallabies jersey from the 2003 World Cup and a signed Matthew Hayden cricket bat to commemorate his score of 380 against Zimbabwe.

The next Ford Racing event will be the Ford V8 Superbreakfast at the Westin Hotel in Sydney on the morning of Thursday 12 August.

That event will raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, with the highlight being an auction for a hot lap in the Shell Helix Racing V8 Supercar of Steven Johnson.

Other funds will be raised through a separate raffle with lots of great prizes.

Tickets are priced at $80 (plus booking fee) and can be booked through Ticket at www.ticketek.com or by calling (02) 9266 4800.
