Featuring turbo-charged open-wheel racecars, the CART World Series is one of the most watched international motor sports championships with races in North America, Europe, Japan and Australia.
Leading the Ford Racing charge is Sweden?s Kenny Brack, who comes to the Gold Coast fighting for the championship.
Brack has taken four of Ford-Cosworth?s seven wins in 2001, with Team Rahal teammate Max Papis scoring two wins, including the most recent round at Laguna Seca in California; the other win going to Canadian Patrick Carpentier.
Brack will need to score victory on the Gold Coast if he?s to catch defending champion, and current series leader, Gil de Ferran of Team Penske.
?Our last race at Laguna Seca was great for the team, but not so good for me as I was forced out early after a collision,? said Brack.
?But this championship is for from over and I?m determined to take victory on the Gold Coast.
?Although this will only be my second trip to Australia, I really like the track and the atmosphere is very exciting.
?With six wins this year, we are one of the best performing teams in the series, I hope the Gold Coast will be lucky seven!?
As well as Brack?s Italian teammate Papis, the other Ford Cosworth drivers to watch include the Players / Forsythe Racing duo of Carpentier and Alex Tagliani.
Since midway through the year the two Canadians have been amongst the leading contenders.
?My win at Michigan really got things rolling for our team,? said Carpentier.
?Both Alex and I have been challenging in the races and if we had had a little better luck we would have won some more races for sure.
?We come to the Gold Coast very confident, it?s one of the best street tracks we race on and winning outside of North America would be a career highlight.
The Champ Cars begin practice on Friday with qualifying on Saturday afternoon; the Gold Coast Indy 300 gets underway from 2pm.
