Blue Oval to Remain King of the Enduros

Staff, Wednesday October 3, 2007.

Ford is a hot candidate to clench back-to-back Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 titles and cement its status as ‘king of the enduro’s’, with an increasing showing of exceptional talent from its 30 drivers, raw Falcon speed and pure commitment from its V8 Supercar teams.

Blue Oval to Remain King of the Enduro's

The Blue Oval ended its seven year Bathurst drought last year with a deserved and emotional win for Craig Lowndes (also won in 1996) and Jamie Whincup in the #888 TeamVodafone Falcon. The super-duo paired again last month for a sensational Sandown 500 win.

Defending champions Lowndes and Whincup are solid favourites to take out the gruelling event again this year, however the depth of talent in the Ford line-up could see a number of Blue Oval boys on the podium.

Ford Performance Racing star and Sandown pole-sitter Mark Winterbottom will this weekend pair with two-time Bathurst winner Steven Richards in a co-liveried #6 Falcon – the combination sure to prove competitive on track.

Stone Brothers Racing took out third and fourth at last year’s endurance event, with just 0.005 seconds separating James Courtney (2006 with Glenn Seton, 2007 with David Besnard) and team-mate, two-time Bathurst winner Russell Ingall (paired again this year with Luke Youlden), as they crossed the line.

Courtney undertakes his Bathurst assault simultaneously with his Channel 7 ‘Dancing with the Stars’ campaign – a similar feat to that achieved by Ford V8 Supercar driver and DWTS winner Grant Denyer in 2006.

Ford veteran John Bowe will line up for the final time as a two-time winner and four-time runner up at the event. Jason Bright goes into Bathurst with confidence after being a strong race leader in 2006 until engine failure put him out of contention
“The endurance events are the pinnacle of the V8 Supercar calendar, and Bathurst is the biggest race of the year,” said Ford Racing Manager Ray Price.

“We head to The Mountain as defending champions and we’ve won the last five Sandown’s in a row – there is certainly no denying that Ford is currently dominating V8 Supercar endurance events.”

“We head to The Mountain as defending champions”

“Ford had experienced a long drought at Bathurst but last year we turned the tide, and we intend to keep adding those Peter Brock trophies to our cabinet. “

“There’s no doubt that the opposition is tough, but we have the talent and momentum to back up a win this weekend.
"Bathurst is the hardest race to conquer, mistakes can’t happen and every opportunity must be seized – Ford has the teams, drivers and car speed in its Falcons to ensure the best possible chance of victory.”

30 Ford drivers will attempt the biggest event on the V8 Supercar racing calender this weekend with 161 laps on the treacherous 6.123 kilometre circuit for round ten of the 2007 V8 Supercar Championship series (4-7 October).

Two-time Bathurst winner Lowndes and his defending champion co-driver Whincup proved at Sandown that they will be a force to beat this weekend at The Mountain.

2m08.6571s was the fastest race lap in 2006 – clocked by Lowndes on lap 158.

Richards and Sandown pole-sitter Winterbottom will team up in a co-livered #6 Falcon

Richards is the only driver to win Bathurst in both a Ford and a Holden – he is looking to tip the scales in Ford’s favour this weekend
