Today?s result was Besnard?s best finish since Oran Park (NSW) last year where he claimed second overall in his rookie season.
For the first time in 2002, Mark Skaife did not take victory, with today?s sixth round of the V8 Series won by his teammate Jason Bright ahead of Greg Murphy.
In two action-packed races today, there was clashes and crashes with safety car periods dominating proceedings.
It was Besnard?s consistency that paid off with seventh in races one and two, with a great drive in the final 100 kilometre race earning his second place just two seconds being Jason Bright.
The result elevated the Ford Falcon AUXR8 driver to eighth, an outstanding achievement after being placed 27th in the series after the opening round in Adelaide due to mechanical problems in both of those races.
?It?s fair to say that this result has been coming, as our team has worked extremely hard in the first half of this year,? said Besnard.
?I?ve learned to be a little more patient in the races themselves, and bringing home a straight car has also meant strong results.
?A result like this does give us confidence and we?re confident of steadily improving going into the second half of the season.
?We?ve got a month off until the next round at Sydney?s Oran Park, which after last year?s second place overall is a place our team is looking forward to going to.?
Ford?s best team in the event was OzEmail Internet Racing with John Bowe finishing fifth overall and Brad Jones eighth outright.
?It?s the best car I?ve ever had in Perth,? said Bowe.
?This is not a flash in the pan type of weekend, everyone should now consider us a real threat for the rest of the year.
?If not for an incident with Neil Crompton in the final race when I got turned around, I?m sure that I could have been on the podium. It would have been nice to have a couple of Ford?s spraying the champagne ? I?m sure that?s just around the corner?.
On a day of many incidents, the two main dramas occurred to Ford?s two best-placed championship contenders. Craig Lowndes was turned around in the day?s opening race by Todd Kelly, leaving the 00 Motorsport driver 15th overall for the day.
It was also frustrating weekend for Marcos Ambrose (Pirtek Racing) who had power steering failure in the day?s first race, forcing him to fight through to 11th place outright.
Western Australian motor sport fans have given a massive vote of approval to V8 Supercars with an estimated 70,000 people attending the three day meeting at Barbagallo Raceway.
Crews now enjoy a month away from the track with the V8 championship heading to Sydney?s Oran Park for round seven over the weekend of July 26 ? 28.
