The round was taken out by defending Shell Series Champion Mark Skaife.
The Ford Falcon AUXR8 driver’s previous best result was fifth placed earlier in the year at Darwin’s Hidden Valley.
“It’s a great weight off mine and the team’s shoulders,” said the rookie driver.
“This weekend we were on top of the car and we were able to take full advantage of that.
“I have to say that I never lost confidence – now we go to the Queensland 500 at Willowbank confident of gaining another top result.
Gibson Motorsport’s Craig Lowndes was in the thick of the action all day, claiming second in the first race and despite a massive spin on the final corner of the second race took third overall.
“It’s about getting good starts – and when I missed the first one I got behind and it was quite a battle from there,” said Lowndes.
“We did battle hard throughout the day and I’m pleased with the result.
“The final corner was quite hair raising - Garth Tander touched me and turned me around. With the other cars quite close I had to keep the boot in to finish in front of them.
Shell Helix Racing’s Steve Johnson claimed fourth on the day and moved to third in the championship standings.
The Shell Series now has a month off before the first of two endurance races, the Queensland 500 at Willowbank near Ipswich.
All teams use two drivers for the long distance race, and with a large amount of points on offer championship positions are by no means comfortable.
The Queensland 500 will be held over the weekend of August 24 – 26.
