Besnard has been one of the biggest movers in the V8 Supercar Series, charging up the championship standings at each round in 2002.
After mechanical dramas at the opening round in Adelaide where he placed 27th overall, the 25-year-old has been one of the drivers to watch, with the most recent round in Perth earning him third place outright, placing him eighth in the championship.
Sydney born and bred, Besnard has raced at the Oran Park track many times over the years in different categories, the highlight being second place in his first full season of V8?s last year aboard the Ford Falcon AUXR8.
Now based on the Gold Coast with the Stone Brothers Racing, the organisation that campaigns his Falcon, the former Sutherland resident views Oran Park as his home coming event in the 13-round series.
?Oran Park in 2002 was a huge lift for me and team after a difficult start to my first full year in V8?s,? said Besnard.
?This year we?ve worked on being more consistent. Our qualifying has been good and now the race results are starting to roll our way.
?Along with my teammate Marcos Ambrose (Pirtek Racing), the entire Stone Brothers Racing organisation is heading in the right direction and Oran Park will show our strength.
?Myself, I?m probably the most confident I?ve been since joining the category and I?m sure we can challenge for victory?.
From one of Ford?s brightest young stars, to one of the sport?s most respected drivers, John Bowe of the OzEmail Internet Racing team.
Since joining the team at the start of the year, Bowe has enjoyed some of his best runs in recent years with one of the highlights being third place in race #2 in Perth. He was set for a podium result overall, before being spun around in the final race of the day.
?Our story has been pretty much the same as David?s ? consistency,? said Bowe.
?The OzEmail team has come along way in 2002 and we?ve got a good grip on the car?s set-up and along with my teammate, Brad Jones, this team is starting to get the results it deserves.
?From a Ford point of view, there?s us, Stone Brothers Racing and 00 Motorsport with Craig Lowndes, that are all starting to fire at the moment, so a Falcon win is very much achievable at Oran Park.?
Oran Park will feature two 150 kilometre races on Sunday, with compulsory tyre pit stop in each. Saturday?s action includes practice, qualifying and a top-10 shootout.
This is the final opportunity for Sydney-based fans to see the V8?s in the Harbour City, a crowd of in excess of 40,000 in expected at the Narellan track on Sunday.
