Marcos Ambrose has ensured he added a healthy collection of points to his NASCAR Busch Series tally from an eventful Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International in New York today.
The Australian finished 13th in the #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford Fusion, surviving several incidents to bring his car home and score points that see him maintain eighth in the overall series standings after 24 of 35 races this season.

Ambrose qualified in seventh position and began to move steadily forward in the early stages of the race. Fuel strategy was not kind to the 30-year-old and as the race panned out Ambrose continually found himself having to claw his way back through the pack as the differing pit strategies played out.
Ambrose made a set-up change to the rear end of the car late in the race in an attempt to cure a handling problem, but the move back-fired when the car proved worse after the change.
Ambrose soldiered on and despite a poor handling car he showed his class on road courses to move forward in the closing stages, moving forward five positions in the last 10 laps to finish 13th and collect a solid haul of series points.
Kevin Harvick made it back-to-back NASCAR Busch Series wins in the Zippo 200 today, finishing ahead of team-mate Jeff Burton and polesitter Kurt Busch.
Ambrose will be back in action next weekend at Michigan International Speedway for the Carfax 250.
“It was certainly an eventful day,” said Ambrose.
“Our fuel mileage was different from some others. We missed the set-up on the rear of the car a little bit. We made a change; it’s my fault. We should’ve probably stuck with what we had. ”
“But it was not a bad day considering. I mean, we just didn’t quite get it right. ”
“We brought it home probably four or five spots worse than we could have. But all considering, it’s not a bad day.”
“We didn’t think we’d get the fuel mileage some others were trying for, so we didn’t do that strategy. That cost us a few spots. ”
“I asked for a change for that last stop and made the car worse. We stopped again. A couple things happened there that didn’t go our way. But all in all, it’s not a bad points day.”
