Ambrose Grabs Pole At Eastern Creek V8's

V8 Supercar champion Marcos Ambrose (Pirtek Racing) has given himself a great chance of winning his fourth straight V8 Supercar race in Sydney after scoring pole position at Eastern Creek, round two of the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship Series.

The result is the Tasmanian's 14th pole position in what is his 41st start in the championship.

Ambrose jumped from sixth to first in the shootout after a somewhat uncharacteristic weekend where he failed to lead the time sheets.

The 27-year-old praised his Stone Brothers Racing crew for the result.

?Up until the shootout it really has been a tough weekend,? said Ambrose.

?As we've finished all the races over the last 12 months, we didn't have a good stock of tyres for practice and we were still chasing the ideal set-up going into qualifying.

?We made some good gains for qualifying and then the boys gave me a demon machine for the shootout.

?We kept to the plan and I gave it everything on that lap.

?It's so important to be up front for this single 300km race. We can pretty much now plan to race our way. We do have a very good race package.

?However, the job isn't even half done. I expect Mark Skaife and Steve Richards to provide a great challenge.

OzEmail Racing's John Bowe turned heads in qualifying, setting the fastest time.

Unfortunately Bowe ran wide on turn #1 during the shootout and dropped back to 10th.

Tomorrow's 77-lap race starts at 1.30pm.
