Ambrose Grabs Fourth Straight Pole at Queensland

Staff, Monday July 5, 2004.

V8 Supercar Champion Marcos Ambrose (Pirtek Racing) has kept his perfect pole form at Queensland Raceway intact, taking his fourth straight number one starting position at the Willowbank track.

Ambrose was just 0.0521 of a second ahead of Mark Skaife with Todd Kelly third at the sixth round of the championship.

The championship leader is yet to convert his previous three poles into a victory, a win tomorrow will go a long way to putting a further gap on his rivals in the championship chase.

After three sprint-race events, tomorrow's single 280km race will bring a hefty reward for the winner.

?Great to get our pole form back, we haven't had one since round two at Eastern Creek,? said Ambrose.

?To continue our Queensland streak is great, but it was very close and I'm sure it'll be a good battle with Mark from the outset tomorrow.

?I really want to win tomorrow, as I want to get at least a 150 point championship lead after the next three races. That'll set us up nicely for the endurance rounds at Sandown and Bathurst.

?I know that these single races are critical. However, I like the challenge and looking back on last year it was these events where we shined.

?The team is working really well, and I'm enjoying driving, so confidence is not a problem.

?I will not be conservative tomorrow. There's going to be a huge crowd and Ford fans across the country want me to win, so I'm going for it.

Tomorrow's 90-lap race gets underway at 1.45pm.
