Ambrose Docked Championship Points

Reigning V8 Supercar Champion Marcos Ambrose has been docked 192 championship points and his Stone Brothers team fined $10,000 for a technical breach following today?s sixth round of the series at Queensland Raceway.The penalty means Ambrose (872) has forfeited his lead in the V8 Supercar Championship Series, moving from first to fourth on the ladder. Steven Richards (1006) has now assumed the championship lead from Jason Bright (951) and Rick Kelly (930).
Ambrose will still be recognised as the winner of the 2004 Queensland 300. Despite winning the race, stewards later found his team to be in breach of technical rules C8.11.8 and C.11.9 relating to the control ECU loom schematic diagram as contained in schedule four.
Stone Brothers Racing team manager Ross Stone agreed to a breach of the rules that was discovered at post-race scrutineering.
Stewards found that the breach was unintentional. They also found there was an apparent lack of advantage from the breach.
The Stone Brothers Racing team have appealed the decision. This appeal is set down for the V8 Supercar Court of Appeal in Melbourne on Thursday.

STEWARDS FINDINGS:
INQUIRY (B 2.1.2)
Following the receipt of a Report from the Championship Technical Director an Inquiry was convened at 1820 hrs with Mr Ross Stone, Team Manager of Car # 1 who was informed that the subject was an alleged breach of Rule C8.11.8 and C8.11.9 the penalties for which are contained in Table B4 of the rules. OPPORTUNITY (B.2.2) Was given to Mr Stone to be heard, give evidence, ask questions and make submissions following the presentation of the circumstances of the alleged breach.
EVIDENCE
Was received from the Championship Technical Director that in post event checking the ECU loom was found to differ from the schematic contained in Schedule C4 in that it included additional wires and a connector and was also therefore in breach of Rule C8.11.9. He produced the loom removed from the car and explained the area in question.
Mr Stone admitted the breach of Rules C8.11.8 and C8.11.9.
SUBMISSIONS ON PENALTY (B7.2)
Mr Stone stated that the additional wiring arose in circumstances unknown to him and members of the team, was not for connection to any other connector and could not be used for input. The team had an excellent record in regard to eligibility. He urged the imposition of a low penalty.
Inquiry then adjourned at 1855hrs to enable the Stewards to deliberate.
TAKING INTO ACCOUNT (B 7.3)
As a consequence of the admitted Breach of the Technical requirements for the category the Stewards take into account the ready admission by the competitor, the absence of intent, the apparent lack of any advantage and the detailed submissions of Mr Stone.
Having considered all the relevant submissions and circumstances a penalty of a deduction of 192 championship points and a fine of $10,000 is imposed.
