New Ford models debuted at the Australian International Motor Show included Focus Coupe-Cabriolet, Ranger, BF Falcon MkII and FPV Force 6 and Force 8.
“Focus Coupe-Cabriolet is a stylish and sophisticated model that will join the outstanding Focus XR5 Turbo as a natural and exciting extension of the Focus brand,” said Ford Australia President Tom Gorman.
“It will be launched in the second half of 2007, and will be available with a manual or optional automatic transmission. It is a comfortable four-seater, and the fully retractable two-piece hard top folds snugly into the boot.”
The bold wheel arches familiar on all Ford Focus models give Focus Coupe-Cabriolet a purposeful look, while the profile and rear views display a distinctly Italian design flavour with chrome details and a well-proportioned boot lid area.
Another model to make its Australian debut at the motor show was the stylish new Ford Ranger.
On sale in November, Ford Ranger (which replaces Courier), introduces 15 different models, two new powerful, fuel efficient engines and a swath of innovative and practical new attributes.
The new range features three different cab styles, two specification levels, a choice of two-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive, a five speed manual or an optional five speed automatic transmission.
An all new model, High Rider 4×2, offers increased ground clearance to provide even greater functionality.
Ranger’s new 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre turbo diesel direct-injection common-rail engines produce phenomenal amounts of torque at very low rpm, delivering smoother acceleration and better fuel economy.
When compared with the previous Courier model’s 2.5-litre diesel, torque is up 22% at 200 fewer revs and fuel economy has improved 17% in the new 2.5-litre engine.
The new 3.0-litre turbo diesel delivers 115kW of power 3200rpm, 380Nm of torque 1800 rpm and offers 2,500kg towing capacity*.
“Ranger has a stylish new car-like interior and offers a wide array of creature comforts, including increased refinement,” said Mr Gorman.
“It is a no compromise tough Ford truck with the performance and ruggedness needed to face any challenge.”
Ford’s range of home grown heroes are out in force at the Australian International Motor Show, including the popular new performance enhanced Territory variant, Ghia Turbo.
Territory Ghia Turbo introduces sleek sophisticated luxury styling coupled with 245 kilowatts of sports performance. The silky smooth ZF six-speed transmission transfers 480 Newton-metres of torque seamlessly to the road, and Acutrac Plus (incorporating Control Blade IRS, Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control and ABS with EBD) ensures a surefooted SUV driving experience.
Examples from the new BF Falcon MkII range are on display with the new model introducing a host of exterior and interior styling upgrades that further refine Falcon’s contemporary design.
Fairmont Ghia leads the way with a new European-inspired sports luxury exterior appearance. A fresh new interior including a black onyx Interior Command Centre and sumptuous China Beige or Warm Charcoal leather seat trim complete a statement in refined elegance.
Fairmont, Futura and Falcon XT also receive notable upgrades to the exterior design, as do Falcon Ute XL, XLS and RTV models.
The availability of the ZF six-speed automatic across the petrol sedan range has resulted in the XT returning 10.2L/100km when this transmission is optioned.
Fuel economy on petrol BF Falcon MkII XT, Futura and Fairmont sedan models with the four-speed automatic transmission has also improved a further two per cent, dropping to 10.7 L/100km.
Dynamic Stability Control is also available across the wider Falcon petrol sedan range as part of an optional Euro Sports Package on XT, Futura and Fairmont, which includes the six-speed automatic transmission, Sports Control Blade Independent Rear Suspension and 17-inch alloy wheels and tyres.
Ford’s range of nine dedicated LPG Falcon models also enjoy the visual enhancements offered by the new BF MkII. These remarkable vehicles offer large car package and performance coupled with the refuelling costs of a small car.
“Earlier this year Ford proved it’s possible to drive around Australia for less than $1000 using a dedicated LPG Fairmont,” said Mr Gorman.
“It was a significant achievement, as it demonstrates LPG is a viable, widely available and cheaper alternative fuel.”
Ford Performance Vehicles has an exciting new model at the show, the Force 8.
These vehicles will set the standard for locally produced, executive luxury high performance cars.
Force 6 features FPV’s high-tech intercooled F6 270 Turbo in-line six cylinder engine, and the Force 8 is powered by the quad cam 5.4-litre Boss 290 V8.
?I have no doubt that the Force models will find particular favour with corporate executives who want an Australian-built alternative to European luxury marques,? said Mr Gorman.
Both models are available exclusively with the world-class ZF 6HP26 high-torque six-speed automatic transmission and feature 4-piston front and single-piston rear Brembo brakes (with the option of 6-piston front and 4-piston rear Brembo brakes), 19-inch shadow chrome alloy wheels, sports-tuned suspension, limited slip rear differential and a long list of luxury appointments as standard equipment.
All told, there are almost 25 new Ford vehicles on display at the Australian International Motor Show.
“This exciting new line up of stylish, innovative and versatile new models will lead Ford into 2007 and beyond,” concluded Mr Gorman.
*On 3.0L Turbo Diesel XL 4×2, XL 4×4 and XLT 4×4 when fitted with the genuine Ford Accessory heavy duty tow pack (includes towbar, load levelling kit, towball and wiring), and subject to State and Territory legislation.
