"I'm delighted to confirm that we have delivered on our program objective of bringing Territory to market under the magical $40,000 mark," Ford Australia President Geoff Polites announced at the 2004 Melbourne International Motor Show.
"The entry level rear-wheel drive Territory will be on sale from June 1 with a recommended retail price of just $38,990*."
Polites also revealed the addition of a new model to the Territory range.
"Last year we announced Territory would be the first Australian manufactured vehicle to be offered in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.
"Today we are proud to announce the entry and high level models will be joined later this year by a new mid-series model."
The model line-up will be: entry-level Territory TX, mid-series Territory TS and range-topping Territory Ghia.
All three will be available in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.
"The rear-wheel drive version is perfect for those customers who want the higher ride height and interior flexibility that comes with Territory, but don't need ? or wish to pay extra for ? an AWD system.
"The AWD version is designed to meet the needs of people who enjoy travelling a little off the beaten track, so would want the Dynamic Stability Control system and the optional Hill Descent Control that are part of the AWD layout," Polites said.
The entry level Territory TX comes complete with the powerful Barra 182 4.0-litre six-cylinder engine, sequential sports shift transmission, advanced driving dynamics and user friendly features such as electronically adjustable pedals.
?When we sat down to build Territory, one thought uppermost in the minds of everybody was to ensure the vehicle was true to the Ford philosophy of providing outstanding value for money,? Polites said.
?People buying the Territory TX will get the vehicle dynamics of a sedan, the versatility of a traditional SUV and the interior flexibility of a people mover."
Territory TX comes complete with the Ford Acutrac handling system, incorporating the advanced Virtual Pivot Control Link front suspension and the award-winning Control Blade IRS for unrivalled ride quality and driving dynamics.
?Territory will provide a command seating position, the option to comfortably seat seven people and excellent levels of passive and active safety in tandem with a driving experience superior to anything similar currently offered in the Australian market,? Polites said.
The Territory TS ? which goes on sale in the fourth quarter of 2004 ? adds creature comforts such as climate control air-conditioning, premium sound, alloy rims and becomes the first Australian-built vehicle with locally manufactured side curtain airbags.
?Ford has always been a pioneer in the field of occupant safety and we are proud to again lead the way as the first local manufacturer to include side curtain airbags,? Polites said.
Topping out the Territory range is the luxurious Territory Ghia which, like the Territory TX, will go on sale on June 1.
?The range topping Territory remains true to the Ghia nameplate, which has come to symbolize the best in locally manufactured prestige motoring.
?Territory Ghia builds on the high levels of comfort in the TX and TS versions of Territory, and adds leather seat trim, Reverse Sensor System, alloy rims, front fog lamps and body coloured bumpers, cladding, rockers, liftgate moulding and mirrors.?
?Look at the features we include in Territory, then look at the price, and you can see why we believe it will redefine the Australian motoring scene,? Polites said.
Customers will be able to test drive Territory in May, with the TX and Ghia versions going on sale on June 1. The TS version follows in the fourth quarter.
